Actor Alec Baldwin shot a prop gun which had been declared ‘cold’, fatally shooting Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Succession star Cox appeared on BBC Breakfast and paid tribute to his Hollywood friend, and also gave some insight into what he believes may have happened.

Cox said he felt “terrible” for Baldwin and Hutchins in the wake of the tragedy.

He told BBC presenters Stayt and Munchetty: “Alec, who is a friend, I just can’t imagine what it’s done to him.

“He’s 68, in the last ten years he’s got five kids, which is a whole new life for him, really, late in life.

“I just feel terrible for him, and, of course, I feel awful for that poor girl.”

The Succession star also provided some more insight into the incident after spending time on a number of Hollywood sets throughout his career.

He revealed he had been told the full extent of what happened but was unable to share it on-air.

“There was something that went on with that gun,” he claimed.

“I don’t know what it was, I’ve been told what it was but I can’t tell you what it was here. I’ll tell you after what it was.”
