ANT & Dec have opened up about the hopeless racehorse they once shared with Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, describing it as “awful”.
The duo claimed the £35,000 colt wasn’t even a thoroughbred — but just a normal horse.
The national treasures also told how they regret not going to university and admitted they took their friendship for granted before Ant’s recovery from alcohol problems.
In an online chat to promote their new book, Once Upon A Tyne, Dec said of the horse: “It was awful, it was a dreadfully slow horse. It wasn’t a racehorse it was just a horse, ’cos it didn’t race.
“Every time we got to the BGT studio Simon would say, ‘I keep paying stable fees on this horse, but I’ve never seen it run’.”
Simon originally wanted to name the nag after himself, but they settled on It’s A Yes From Me when they bought it in 2013.
Dec revealed its eventual fate: “I think it got rehomed.”
The pair, who are celebrating 30 years of working together also claimed they regret never going to university after finding fame on BBC teen drama Byker Grove, and then as pop act PJ & Duncan.
Ant said: “I look back now and I kind of regret I never had the chance to go to uni.”
Ant temporarily stepped down from presenting Saturday Night Takeaway following his arrest for drink-driving in 2018 and return to rehab.
Then pal Holly Willoughby stood in for him on I’m A Celebrity.
Ant & Dec admitted they had taken their partnership for granted before the break and had to work on it before they started filming again.
Speaking to Dermot O’Leary in the interview, Dec said: “Because there was so much uncertainty with our career and partnership, we had to really step back and take stock of it all and almost get our friendship back on track, because I think we’d taken it for granted for too long.”
Ant added: “Having had that period where we weren’t together, there is a newfound gratitude for everything we do.”
Dec added: “It’s a really lovely time in our lives and in our professional career.”
Here’s to the next 30 years, lads . . .
Growing old gracefully
“I WANT to look like I’ve slept in gravy and just had it round the bins with my husband.”
Jewel of the mile
MILEY Cyrus is a cut-out above the rest in this slinky black bejewelled dress.
The popstar dripped in diamonds as she flashed her flesh during a performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week.
Miley performed new track Midnight Sky and a cover of Hall & Oates’ 80s hit Maneater.
Explaining why she chose her second track, the US star said: “I think it’s very important to be transparent.
“I’m freshly single, so anyone watching that’s my future ex-husband, just know I told you.”
Offers on a postcard . . .
Jamies marital recipe
JAMIE Oliver has opened up about his 20-year marriage to wife Jools, admitting that at times it has been “really hard” – but that they’re still “best mates”.
He said: “Marriage is really hard. You’re going to spend a portion of it not liking your other half and vice versa. So I think not holding grudges, being able to move on, is really important.”
The couple have five kids: Poppy, Petal, River, Buddy and Daisy Boo.
Chef Jamie said on The Joe Wicks Podcast: “It’s not my generation but I see people swiping through Tinder for partners and I think ‘wow!’
“But you can’t sugarcoat it, you just have to accept that it’s hard. But I love Jools to bits and I’m proud of the woman she’s become.
“I’ve enjoyed seeing Jools change, and she’s definitely my best mate.”
Sounds like a recipe for a happy marriage . . .
Katie and hubby split after eight years
SINGER Katie Melua has split from Superbike champion James Toseland after eight years of marriage.
The Nine Million Bicycles singer spent lockdown apart from her hubby, who she wed in a lavish 2012 ceremony in Kew Gardens in West London, and has poured her heart into new music.
A source told us: “They just grew apart and realised there was no future together.
“Katie has been throwing herself into her work, which has really helped her.”
Her new album – entitled Album No8 – is released on 16 October.
The Georgian-British star gives a glimpse into her feelings in new ballad Your Longing Is Gone.
She sings: "It used to really feel like we were high, flying. You could say our days were too good to be true.
"I loved it when you showed me that inside you were dying. Like I had to answer that pull from you. And then the leaves changed shades and up they flew.
"Your longing is gone, now don’t go trying to force it. Your longing is gone, I’m gonna leave with the morning dew."
We hope it’s not too long before Katie’s singing a happier tune.
LOUISE Redknapp was nearly shown the red card – for shouting at her son Beau’s football match.
The former Eternal singer said: “He’s signed to Chelsea’s under-12s team and parents are not meant to shout at matches.
“Sometimes I do, and I get told I can’t go if I do it again.”
Louise has two sons, Charley and Beau, with ex-husband Jamie Redknapp.
Singer Lucy: I'm writing bombshell X Factor book
X FACTOR star Lucy Spraggan is writing a bombshell autobiography about her time on the ITV reality show – almost ten years after her hit Beer Fear went viral.
The singer, who starred on the show in 2012, has ditched booze and shed three stone this year. In an exclusive interview, she told us: “I’m actually writing a book at the moment called Are You That Girl?
“It’s because a lot of the questions I get are ‘Are you Lucy Spraggan? Are you the girl off X Factor? Are you Tea and Toast? Are you Beer Fear?’ like it is a huge part of my life — but it was nearly ten years ago.
"It was quite a stressful time but still an experience. It’s where people know me from and I still have positive views on that.”
Lucy, who split from wife Georgina in November, released new single Flowers on Friday and has penned her seventh album, to be released next year.
She explained: “There is a song about being sober which I wrote a week into being sober. It’s an interesting reflection.
"There’s a song about my bloody divorce, there’s a song about everything that has happened in the last year.”
Lucy also revealed that she has a new romance on the go.
She teased: “I have a girlfriend. I haven’t really said anything about her.”
Corrie joker’s Kaned
A CHEEKY Coronation Street star was given a reality check when Linda Lusardi's actor hubby Sam Kane called them out on set.
Sam, who starred as Sarah Platt’s captor Gary Adams in the soap in 2001, was fed up with the un-named actor putting him off during filming.
He said: “We would shoot his close up and I would give him respect.
"But he turned the camera round, he’s pulling faces – skulduggery.
“So I said to the guy, ‘What are you doing?’ I got a round of applause.”
Shane: I'm a shoal man
HE’S used to belting out hits on stage, but this summer Boyzone singer Shane Lynch swapped his mic for a fishing rod when he joined a much older cast on Celebrity 5 Go Fishing.
The singer was reeled in as a last-minute recruit for the C5 reality show when cricket legend Ian Botham pulled out because he had too much fishing experience.
Shane joined TV host Fern Britton, Les Dennis, Linford Christie and Rosemary Shrager for the jolly in Scotland.
It was Fern’s first telly gig since splitting from her TV chef hubby Phil Vickery.
A source said: “Shane really threw himself into the series and got on well with the older cast. He loved being in nature and they had a lot of laughs.”
PIXIE Geldof has told how she took a tumble in front of the Queen at pal Princess Eugenie’s wedding.
She told Henry Holland’s podcast: “I didn’t meet her but she was walking around saying stuff like, ‘Well, it’s great that I have a house big enough to hold all these guests’.
“She’s full LOL. She was being funny. She was like, ‘Welcome to my home’, and also I fell over at one point. Stacked it, but not on to the floor. And not drunk – hadn’t drunk.”
We dread to think what happened after a glass of bubbly.
Olivia's already on the outs
OLIVIA Attwood has barely been in The Only Way Is Essex five minutes and she is already planning her exit.
The ex-Love Islander, who joined Towie in April last year, has bagged her own reality show Meets Her Match set in Manchester, which means she’ll have to skip filming in Essex.
She said: “I will go missing a little bit later in the series due to commitments to my own show but I am involved in the tenth anniversary show.”
Bosses are worried that Olivia, who got engaged to footballer Bradley Dack in October, might flee up north for good.
A TV source said: “Liv is focused on her own show and getting married. No one would be surprised if she left after this series.”
