Danni was on hand to help Neil and Linda from Lanarkshire find a property they could buy in Spain as they looked forward to retirement. The A Place in the Sun presenter set about finding five homes she could show the couple, all within their budget of around £140,000, although they were willing to push towards £150,000. They also wanted the establishment to have lots of space and views of the Spanish countryside. However, after being spoilt for choice at the start of the Channel 4 programme, they were left disappointed by a particular viewing and the host had to do a bit more work to find them their perfect holiday home.

The search got underway with a townhouse located in Humilladero, valued at £150,000 which was the very top of their budget.

Inside the property, there wasn’t a lot of space but the couple were overjoyed with some aspects of the house including the terracotta roof and how the terrace wasn’t overlooked by neighbours.

Despite the lack of space inside, Neil and Linda told Danni she going in the right direction in terms of what to offer them.

Property number two was even better as the three-bedroom house in Villanueva del Trabuco ticked all the boxes possible.

“You’ve given us everything we imagined,” Neil told the presenter as he liked the additional space provided.

Valuing at £149,000, this was within the couple’s budget and they even told Danni it had “blown the townhouse” out the water.

However, after viewing the entire property, Linda still had reservations as she was concerned the area was too rural for them.

Bringing property number three into the mix, a three-bedroom townhouse in Antequera, the couple’s expectations were exceeded once more.

From the moment they set their eyes on it, both guests said they thought it looked “really nice” and once inside, they explained they much preferred the feel of it to the previous houses they’d seen.

The asking price was £169,000, but Danni explained the sellers were keen to take it out the market so were willing to negotiate.

Boasting a good-sized living room, a country-style kitchen, two bathrooms, a large games room with a summer kitchen and a private swimming pool, the spacious property ticked every box.

Neil and Linda said this was their favourite and the country house they had previously seen was no longer on the cards.

With an acre and a half of land also coming with the townhouse, the couple had this property firmly in their minds to buy.

They decided to continue with the viewings, however, but property number four seemed to be a no-go from the moment they saw it.

The modern four-bedroom house in Mollina – valued at £124,000 – consisted of a good-sized living room, a fully fitted white kitchen, two bathrooms, and a private swimming pool to the rear of the property.

After having a look around, the pair met up with Danni to give her their debrief of the house and it wasn’t a gleaming review.

As well as stating this was a property you would most likely find in Britain, Linda said she had “no passion for it.”

There is no character in this property

With Danni discussing what they did want, which seemed to be more traditional and a property which captured the Spanish allure and character, she was shut down.

“There is no character in this property, it’s just a new build,” the guest replied, meaning the host hasn’t ticked all the boxes with property number four.

After the disappointing viewing, the presenter was keen to impress the couple one final time with a four-bedroom villa in Cuevas de San Marcos.

The establishment consisted of an interior covered courtyard, a bright lounge/dining room with an open fireplace and a well-equipped kitchen.

Two bathrooms and a large covered BBQ area completed the inventory, but the couple weren’t feeling the allure of the place.

As such, they decided not to complete the viewing and had their minds firmly set on putting an offer in on property number three.

However, by the end of the episode, they told Danni they were going to do some more research and think about their finances before committing to anything.

The presenter explained she was “disappointed” they hadn’t found anything but was pleased she had given the couple more to think about.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
