Fans have ripped into Piers Morgan for suggesting France’s team were ‘deliberately poisoned’ ahead of their defeat to Argentina in the World Cup final.
After France went 2-0 down, Morgan tweeted: ‘It wasn’t a virus, the French team clearly got deliberately poisoned’, in response to the poor performance from Didier Deschamps’ side.
France rallied as Kylian Mbappe scored twice in 95 seconds to level the match at 2-2 and send a pulsating final into extra-time.

Lionel Messi put Argentina back in front but the drama was not finished there as Mbappe converted from the spot, leaving penalties as the only way to split the two sides.
Argentina then prevailed 4-2 on penalties to win the World Cup for a third time, giving Messi the crowning moment of his storied career.
Fans on social media have laid into Morgan, branding him ’embarrassing’ and linking his apparent desire for Messi not to win the World Cup to his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘Heads completely going, love it’, said on Twitter user, with another adding: ‘Cry more.’
Another, criticising Morgan’s views on Messi, said: ‘You’re a grown man?’
Several other users posted photos of Cristiano Ronaldo crying, mocking Morgan further, as another said: ‘How typical Ronaldo fans think, delusional.’
France’s team had been plagued by a virus before the game, a report Morgan rubbished
Morgan famously has a strong relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi’s greatest rival
Morgan infamously carried out Ronaldo’s recent tell-all interview which sparked his acrimonious Manchester United exit, and he has repeatedly backed the Portugal forward as the best player in the world over Messi.
But Messi has won the World Cup in his final game at the tournament, a feat which Ronaldo, who will also surely not play at another finals, never achieved.
He scored the opening goal in the game from the penalty spot and played a vital role in the second, teeing up Alexis Mac Allister, who fed Angel di Maria to score.
Messi thought he won the trophy for Argentina when he put them 3-2 ahead in extra time
Mbappe however hit a late double to bring things back to level terms as the end of normal time approached.
Messi then thought he’d won it for Argentina in extra-time before Mbappe scored a controversial penalty.
Argentina were to have the last laugh as they won 4-2 on penalties.
