MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly missed out on two transfers targets with Douglas Costa rejoining Bayern Munich and Juventus signing Federico Chiesa.
The Red Devils were linked with both widemen as alternatives to Jadon Sancho.
But Ed Woodward and his team have been pipped to the pair by two of United's European rivals.
Juve have snapped up Chiesa, 22, on a loan deal with an obligation to buy the Italian from Fiorentina for £45.3million, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The versatile star is said to have agreed personal terms on a five-year deal.

A "total agreement" has also been reached for Bayern to bring Costa back from Juve, according to Sky Sport Germany's Max Bielefeld.
Costa, 30, who left Bayern for the Old Lady in 2018, will return to Bavaria on loan.
United were linked with the Brazilian – who is being offloaded by Andrea Pirlo's side after becoming surplus to requirements thanks to persistent injury problems.
Costa missed 21 games through injury last season but is set for a second chance in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea were also heavily linked when it looked like Callum Hudson-Odoi was headed to Bayern.

In Italy, Chiesa has impressed at Fiorentina since breaking into their first team back in 2016.
Newcastle were also interested this summer but an offer never materialised.
Chiesa was a regular for Fiorentina last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further nine in 37 appearances for Giuseppe Iachini's side.
He has been at La Viola throughout his career, joining the club's academy in 2007 before making his senior debut nine years later.
In making his international debut in 2018, Chiesa followed in father Enrico's footsteps by representing the Azzurri.
