Falcons’ A.J. Terrell tests positive for coronavirus, will miss game

We have our first NFL player expected to miss a game this season due to COVID-19.

Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell is being placed on the reserve COVID list ahead of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, the team announced.

The Falcons received the news Saturday that Terrell had tested positive in a test administered the previous day. Since Terrell practiced with the team Friday, league protocols mandate that immediate contact tracing will take place, although the Falcons hadn’t uncovered any other positive tests as of 2 p.m. Saturday.

Before training camps opened over the summer, other players had been placed on the COVID reserve list for testing positive for coronavirus or coming in contact with someone who had. Terrell, the 16th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, is the first to do so since the season began two weeks ago.

The Falcons (0-2) already are without injured defensive backs Kendall Sheffield and Ricardo Allen for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
