Canadian diver Pamela Ware speaks out after scoring rare zero in Olympics

A Canadian diver scored a rare 0.0 in the Olympic 3m springboard semifinal on Saturday when she abandoned her dive attempt the moment she jumped.

Pamela Ware, 28, took a misstep before her planned 3.5 difficulty dive and jumped feet first into the water.

“I think that if I would have done the dive, I could have possibly hurt myself,” she told reporters.

In the preliminary round, Ware finished at No. 4, but with her last place performance, she did not advance to the finals.

However, Ware is not deterred by this setback.

In an Instagram video she posted after her failed dive, Ware — who was a bronze medalist at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships — said that she will continue to compete and despite things not going her way on the springboard, she was still “very proud of myself.”

“I was so ready for this competition, and I made a mistake,” she said. “It could have happened to anybody, but it happened to me at the wrong time. But I am proud because I have done everything possible to make it to where I am and I’m human, I’m allowed to make mistakes.

“I hope you guys are gonna get used to having me around because I’m not going anywhere, I’m not giving up. This competition does not define me and I will not let it defeat me.”
