ARSENAL have joined Inter Milan in the race for £25million-rated Newcastle star Ayoze Perez – despite his uninspiring goal-scoring record.
Napoli are also thought to be chasing the Spanish forward, 25, after netting a career best 12 Premier League goals this term.
Perez has been at Newcastle since 2014, but recently admitted he would be open to new opportunities.
After scoring a hat-trick against Southampton last month, Perez admitted: “In the summer there is going to be options.
“That means I have done something well. I’ll be up for hearing what is coming.
“I can hear what is coming for me, what they offer for me, but it doesn’t mean I am going to leave 100 per cent at the end of the season.
“It is going to be a difficult decision. It depends on a lot of things.”
Perez may be tempted to stay should Rafa Benitez keep his job at St James' Park, after adding: “We all want him to stay. It means a lot for this club.
“Every fan wants him to stay as well. So there are a lot of things to think about, but we will see.
“Obviously it has been five great years over here and I have improved a lot as a player and a person. I cannot thank Newcastle enough.”
But after suggesting he would be happy to leave this summer, a hatful of clubs have come knocking.
Inter Milan kicked off proceedings, but were swiftly joined by Serie A rivals Napoli.
Now Arsenal boss Unai Emery is hoping to add him to their squad this summer, as he eyes up a host of lower-fee transfers.
Prior to joining Newcastle, Perez was on the books of Tenerife, where he scored 17 goals in 50 appearances in Spain's second tier.
At the Toon, the forward has managed just 32 Premier League goals in 141 games – but still Emery is hopeful he can provide a spark to his front-line.
