Richard broke his own dating rule and expanded his search radius by three miles in a bid to find ‘the one’ in The Undateables at Christmas.

In last night’s episode of the Channel 4 show, fan favourite Richard Lawrence, from Surrey, who has Asperger’s syndrome, was amongst the familiar faces sharing their special plans for the festive period.

Deciding to go all out, Richard, who hates Christmas, made the bold decision to increase his dating radius from five miles to eight miles.

And viewers were quick to take to Twitter, with many praising the singleton for his use of a map and compass to ensure accuracy – as others argued he ‘deserves his own series.’

‘Eight miles, steady now,’ joked one, while a second commented: ‘Richard is my absolute fave.’

In last night’s episode of Channel 4’s The Undateables at Christmas, Richard Lawrence (pictured), from Surrey, told how he has strict rules when it comes to dating, which includes finding someone within his five mile limit

A third penned: ‘Richard getting compass out and circling his dating radius!’ while a further wrote: ‘Richard’s distance limits are my spirit animal.’

During the episode, it was revealed that Christmas Grinch Richard hadn’t been on a date in two years.

In the past he’d been unwilling to look for love too far from home, but with Christmas around the corner he decided to compromise and travel to meet his date Laura at Kew Gardens –  more than double the distance he would normally go on a date.

‘I have very fixed ideas about the dating process really,’ he explained as he headed over 10 miles away. ‘I’ve always wanted to find someone within my five mile limit but this time, I’m going to go to more eight miles.’

Twitter was full of praise for Richard, with one even declaring he ‘deserves his own series’ (pictured)

He continued: ‘That takes in all of Kingston, Reigate and Croydon. I think the extra three miles will make a massive difference.’

On his way to meet his date Laura, from South east London, Richard said: ‘I’m more nervous than excited. It’s very rare for me to go outside of my five mile limit at all. I hope it’s worth it.

Despite arriving armed with his ‘trump card’ bottle of red wine, Richard didn’t manage to find love this time round – with Laura saying ‘no offence’ but a second date wasn’t on the cards.

But while he might not have found love, he did win over the hearts of the nation.

‘Richard makes me laugh,’ enthused one, while a second commented: ‘I knew Richard wouldn’t let us down. What a star!’

Taking to social media, one viewer branded Richard a ‘star,’ while a second joked: ‘Eight miles, steady now!’
