Mum upcycles free cot into DIY ‘treat trolley’ for birthday party using £1 buys

A mum has created a pretty DIY ‘treat trolley’ for her daughter’s birthday garden party using Poundland and bargain buys.

Denise Lobin posted about the fun creation on a popular Facebook DIY group.

The mum built the trolley, which is used as a sweetie buffet cart, from an old cot.

Most of her decorations cost no more than a pound and some were homemade.

Posting on the Facebook group, Denise wrote: “Thanks to an idea from FB, I repurposed an old cot (free from FB marketplace as it was broken and not suitable for its intended use). "

She continued: "I turned it into a Treat Trolley (or Candy Cart if you’re American ) for my daughter’s birthday garden party.

“Very little cost, just imagination, determination and love!”

In the attached snaps, an old cot was given wheels, a table top and an awning.

Speaking to Daily Star Online, the mum added: “Most of the decorations were from £1 shops.

“The bunting I handmade myself.

“The tabletop was a wood offcut for 50p from B&Q and I glued a paper tablecloth to it!”

You can make your own bunting using fabric.

Just cut a triangle out of cardboard and pin it to your fabric.

Cut around the shape and make the number of triangles you need.

Evenly space the fabric onto some binding tape, fold over the top and sew beneath the tape to form a secure bunting triangle.

Denise continued: “The scalloped edging across the top was an Amazon cardboard box (i cut around a dinner plate to get the curves) and then my daughter and I painted them."

She exclaimed: "Cheap n cheerful!

“The wheels were plant pot holders from B&M which I glued on kebab skewers to make look like spokes.”

Such a creative idea!

People on Facebook clearly thought so too, as DIY-fanatics loved her post.

Nearly 600 people liked the snaps and 62 commented on it.

One person said: “What a brilliant idea! Something old turned into something new!”

“Amazing, I love it,” added another.

A third commented: “Absolutely brilliant!

“I would love one, will now have to look for a cot!”

We’ll bet Denise’s daughter is thrilled with her birthday surprise.
