Missguided shoppers wont be getting refunds – what you need to know if you have a return

Missguided went into administration at the end of Mayand now administrators have revealed what will happen to returns.

The Manchester-based fashion brand fell into administration last month after accumulating millions of pounds in debts to creditors.

The fashion brand called in Teneo Financial Advisory on Monday 30 May to sell its business and assets after clothing supplier JSK Fashions issued a winding-up petition on 10 May.

On 1 June, Sports Direct owner Frasers Group, bought Missguided and its menswear brand Mennace for £20m. The new owner is expecting to take over both fashion brands in August.

On 14 June it was confirmed by Frasers that it plans to rehire Missguided founder Nitin Passi as the company’s chief executive.

What should I do if I have items to return?

Teneo has now told shoppers that it will not be able to issue refunds as part of the insolvency process.

When companies like Missguided collapse, customers are usually last on the list of creditors to receive payment.

If you have an item to return its thought that the best option is to keep it.

One customer shared the direct message they received which declined her attempt at securing a refund. The Twitter user said they were 'freaking out'. The message from Missguided urges them to send an email to Teneo.

The message read: "We will not be able to honour any pre-appointment refunds requested and not yet settled.

“In this case, you can make a claim in the administration process.”

What happens if you have an order pending?

There are ways to request a refund from a company that has gone into administration, according to Which.

They suggest starting with emailing the administrator dealing with the company, as they will temporarily be in control over the company operations.

Missguided was first founded back in 2009 by Nitin Passi when he was just 26 years old, and it soon grew to compete against larger fashion retailers, including Boohoo and Pretty Little Thing.

However, it appears the business has struggled to keep on its feet for the last few years and even had to be rescued from going under by finance firm Alteri Investors in 2021.

While Nitin founded the company, he has not been CEO since April last year when he stepped down and hired Teneo to look into "strategic options" for its future.

At the time, a spokesperson for the firm said there had been “significant progress in addressing stock issues, streamlining warehouse operations and reducing head office costs".

It meant the retailer was, at the time, "in a position to accelerate its plans to find a strategic partner with the infrastructure and platform to deliver the next stage in its turnaround and maximise its potential".

Missguided once reigned supreme as it previously partnered with hit ITV dating programmeLove Island, but now the show has taken on a more sustainable living approach as they'veformed a partnership with eBay.
