Meghan Markle’s close friend Misha Nonoo has revealed that she gave birth to a baby girl named Marina months ago, saying the newborn was premature and had to undergo a ‘number of surgeries’ while in the neonatal intensive care unit.

The 36-year-old designer took to Instagram on Tuesday to post an update with her followers in a series of candid slides, saying she wanted to share her ‘own vulnerabilities’ in the hope of empowering other women.

‘It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me. I wanted to wait until Marina was in a good place to share our story,’ she captioned the post. ‘Thank you to all the incredible doctors and nurses that helped make all our wishes come true, we are so grateful for everything you have done for our family.’

Sharing her story: The designer (pictured pregnant with her daughter) shared the news on Instagram Tuesday

Nonoo, who is based in New York City, explained that she was out of town when she unexpectedly gave birth to Marina.

‘Earlier this year, I went into early labor with our baby daughter, Marina. She arrived whilst I was in another city, away from home and without any family around me,’ the mother of two wrote.

‘She was immediately rushed to the NICU and subsequently received a number of surgeries. I was unable to hold her for weeks. The extraordinary care that she received whilst in the NICU has eternally indebted us to the incredible doctors and nurses that helped nurture our daughter back to health and I am personally humbled by these selfless professionals.’

Marina is Nonoo’s second child with her husband, Mikey Hess. They also have a son, Leo, who celebrated his first birthday in March, a month before she announced her pregnancy.

‘This is Marina’s story. I share it with you, my community, because women are the epicenter and the foundation of everything I have ever done and in sharing the difficulty of the past six months, I want to give hope to those who might be struggling with a similar situation and to help others feel more comfortable with sharing their own challenges,’ she explained.

‘I want to honour our daughter because her fortitude, determination and resilience at such an early age has taken my breath away. Having a child that is sick or requires serious medical attention is one of the hardest things one can go through as a parent.’

Nonoo went on to praise her her baby girl, saying it was her daughter’s strength that kept her moving in her darkest days.

‘I am in awe of our daughter and the extraordinary spirit with which she was born,’ she wrote. ‘I have always looked to women for inspiration and courage in life and in recent moments when I have felt powerless, it was her strong spirit and light that has kept us marching forward. She is quiet simply, a superhero.’

Nonoo concluded the post by saying she is ‘excited to share’ her hopes for the future and what she and her brand ‘can build together sustainably.’

‘Now, more than ever, we need to preserve our world for our little superheroes to thrive in,’ she noted.

The mother of two’s Instagram post marked the first time she announced the birth of her daughter, though she has been spotted with her baby girl on a number of occasions.

Hess carried their toddler son in his car seat and put him in the backseat of an SUV. Nonoo was seen giving a kiss to her baby girl and saying goodbye as the nanny stood with the stroller.

Nonoo married her oil heir husband Hess in a star-studded ceremony in Rome in 2019. The couple had their first child, Leo, in March 2020, less than a year after Meghan and Prince Harry welcomed their son Archie in May 2019.

She announced she was pregnant with a baby girl in April, just weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed to Oprah Winfrey that they were expecting a baby girl this year.

The royal couple welcomed their daughter Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in early June. It’s unclear when exactly Nonoo gave birth to Marina.

In late July, three months after Nonoo announced her pregnancy, she and her husband were spotted boarding a private helicopter in New York City with their children.

Exclusive pictures obtained by DailyMail.com show Nonoo pushing a stroller and Hess preparing to board the chopper with their son, Leo.

The family was accompanied by two women, presumably the nannies, and were believed to be traveling to East Hampton. Employees were seen loading the family’s luggage into the helicopter.

That was the first time Nonoo had been seen since she revealed that she was pregnant with a baby girl.
