Margot Robbie wears the pants at ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ premiere

Margot Robbie skipped the gown for her Cannes Film Festival debut this year.

The actress, 28, attended the premiere of her upcoming movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” on Tuesday in a very unconventional look for the prim and proper red carpet: a pair of Chanel black sequin pants with a blush tunic featuring a sparkly bow. She finished the look with pointed black mules, a choker necklace and teased hair.

It’s no surprise that Robbie chose Chanel for her big moment; she’s been an official ambassador for the brand since 2018. However, the unusual outfit does push the boundaries of the Cannes dress code, which stipulates that women must wear heels. Though it’s unclear whether pants (which have proven to be a popular choice at this year’s festival) are banned, they’re certainly not a typical choice for actresses at the famous French event.

This is Robbie’s first major red carpet appearance since February, when she attended the BAFTAs in a dramatic Chanel gown. She skipped the Oscars in February and the Met Gala earlier this month, but turned up at the Tribeca Film Festival to promote her latest project.

In Cannes, the star was joined by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino as well as her “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” co-stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. In the movie, the official trailer for which was released on Monday, Robbie plays Sharon Tate, while DiCaprio and Pitt play actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth, respectively.
