A Reddit user shared a snap of his lunch-to-be, but commenters were disgusted by the topping which turned out not to be sesame seeds.
The “disturbing” find was posted to the sub-Reddit r/mildlyinfuriating where fellow posters assumed the bloke that he wouldn’t get sick.
However, health workers told him that the bakery must be doing something “very wrong”.
The hungry poster u/cooljuulguy said: “Wanted to buy a sandwich at this bakery.
“At first I thought it’s sesame – well it’s not.”
Would you have bought food from this bakery? Let us know in the comments section…
In the photo some pretzels sit alongside an egg salad sarnie in a crunchy roll.
However, the tiny brown sesame seeds on top are revealed to be fruit flies on closer inspection.
The starving poster explained that instead of turning away, he just asked for a different sandwich.
He commented: “Was so hungry and asked for one without flies.
A reply said: “yeah, you gonna regret that.”
But, posters quickly assured the bloke that he wouldn’t get sick from eating the sandwich.
One person added: “But he won't though, fruit flies are safe to eat.”
Another replied: “Other than the fruit flies (which can appear overnight and can be tricky to get rid of) the food looks pretty fresh to me.
“It's not a Russian roulette type of situation IMO…”
However, a professional wrote: “Untrue. I'm a health inspector.
“They are absolutely not doing several things correctly if they have any flies on their food like this.”

And a chef added: “To have that many flies so concentrated, and on food that's on display no less is a bit disturbing.
“I have 10+ years working in restaurants, worked in plenty of dingy little kitchens too and I would not eat from that place after seeing that.”
Another said: “Bro there were flies on your sandwich they just weren't born yet.”
“My eyes hurt,” another commented.
The bloke’s easy attitude impressed some posters though.
They wrote: “This is the best follow up I can imagine.
“It was gross but not a deal breaker for you.
“‘One sandwich, no flies.’”
We definitely wouldn’t have taken the same attitude.
But, each to their own… we suppose.
