Despite experimenting with subtle tweaks in her hair’s length and colour over the years, Kate Middleton is best known for her mid-length brunette locks, perfectly blow-dried into bouncy curls.
But now the Duchess of Cambridge has wowed fans by revealing a new longer, straighter style instead.
In a clip posted to the Kensington Royal Instagram account, Kate is seen on a video call with NHS workers, praising them for their hard work and dedication during the pandemic.

Speaking from Sandringham, the Queen's Norfolk home, the Duchess is wearing a smart white shirt and blazer and sporting a lengthier and sleeker hairstyle than normal.
Kate’s hair looks like it has grown significantly during lockdown, now reaching halfway down her back. She also appears to have swapped the blow drying brush for the straighteners, as in the video her hair falls in a straight, swishy curtain around her face.

While most of the comments below the post are from followers agreeing with Kate’s sentiments and thanking her for her encouraging words, a few also commented on the Duchess’s new ‘do.
“You look absolutely stunning in straight hair,” writes one excited fan. “You should make straight hair your signature hairstyle.”
“Love Duchess Catherine’s straight hair! You look like you’re 25!” another comments.
In the clip, Kate’s hair also looks noticeably darker than in previous months. Towards the end of 2020 she appeared to have sneaked in a hair appointment in between salon closures to add some subtle “bronde” highlights to her naturally brown hair.

But in the Duchess’s latest appearances – including another video thanking the NHS, this time in celebration of Burns Night and with Prince William by her side – her hair is back to a rich, warm brown shade.
In the UK, hair salons were forced to shut again at the beginning of January for the third time during the Covid pandemic, and will remain closed until at least mid-February. Perhaps Kate was able to pop in to see her hairdresser before they shut again, or maybe she has instead, like a lot of us, been forced to colour her hair at home.
