The coronavirus outbreak has taken away many freedoms Britons were used to. But in true fashion, the nation has taken it in its stride and has begun socialising online taking part in virtual pub quizzes and other games, such as scavenger hunts. Express.co.uk has compiled a list of ideas to help you host an online scavenger hunt for your family and friends.
How to host a virtual scavenger hunt
An online scavenger hunt requires a little work to set up.
The most important item to prepare is the scanger hunt list, which will need to be items you can find around your home.
You should try to vary the difficulty level and be sure to make it appropriate for your participants.
You can also incorporate a time limit for certain items to make it even more challenging.
When you begin your game you should read out the item and then allow your participants to run off to find the item in their homes.
You can either tally up who gathered the most items or institute a tier-based points system based on who finds each item and returns first.
Examples of items to include on your scavenger hunt list:
A photograph of a specific friend or family member can be another fun item to seek out.
Another popular photograph to seek out is an image of everyone’s first pet.
A word-based scavenger hunt
A word-based scavenger hunt is good for the whole family.
The premise of this game is using a word theme meaning your guests have to search for items which represent the word.
For instance, you could say “sunshine” and they could find suncream or sunglasses or “win” and they could find an old trophy.
You can even make it themed to each room as a fun means of getting your guests to run around their homes.

You can also try to make your guests seek out an item in a specific colour.
To make it more difficult it is best to try to make it a relatively unusual colour such as yellow or a neon tone.
You can make it even harder by specifying the type of item for example pink shoes or a green towel.
An alphabet hunt
You can also institute an alphabet scavenger hunt meaning each participant must find an item for each letter of the alphabet.
Making food/a cocktail
If you have foodies in your midst, you may wish to involve food or drink.
You can do this by setting the task of making a specific food dish or drink as a task.
Your ugliest outfit
Giving your loved ones the chance to create an ugly outfit is a fun challenge you can set.
In terms of the competition, you can award a point for the one to return the quickest or even for the one who puts together the most hideous outfit.
