Selena Gomez is more than Theresa Mingus’ best friend; she’s also a big inspiration.

Mingus, who worked as Gomez’s assistant for four years, launched her swimsuit brand last year under the name Krahs, tapping Gomez to design a bestselling style that hid the scars from her kidney transplant surgery.

One year later, Mingus and her business partner, Morgan Brutocao, have rebranded with a new name — La’Mariette, inspired by Theresa’s middle name, Marie, and the French word for the sea, “mer”  — and a new attitude.

One of the standouts from La’Mariette’s new, chicer and more feminine lineup is the “Day Trip” print, which was inspired by a vintage bathing suit Gomez found while shopping during a road trip in Newport Beach with Mingus.

At the time, Mingus said, the design just didn’t fit with the Krahs aesthetic. But when the coronavirus pandemic began, she knew it was the perfect time to evolve her brand — a process that included relocating factories, reimagining the logo and aesthetic and even adding an ambassador program for influencers.

In a new Instagram photo, Gomez models the “Caroline” top ($70) in the colorful print she inspired.

Mingus previously tapped the pop star to help kick off the rebrand in September, with Gomez revealing her surgery scar in a blue zippered suit.

“She had never shown her scar before,” Mingus told Page Six Style of the headline-making snap, for which Gomez fittingly modeled the “Selena” one-piece ($125). “The very first picture [we took] was it.”

Added the designer of the style, “It’s very sexy and looks great on my 13-year-old cousin or my grandma.”
