Teigen, 34, is one of many celebrities who have recently spoken out about pregnancy loss. Others include former first lady Michelle Obama, singers Beyoncé and Celine Dion, actresses Brooke Shields and Kirstie Alley, and actors Hugh Jackman and James Van Der Beek.
“What nobody tells you is that miscarriage happens all the time, to more women than you’d ever guess, given the relative silence around it,” Obama wrote in Becoming, her 2018 memoir. “I learned this only after I mentioned that I’d miscarried to a couple of friends, who responded by heaping me with love and support and also their own miscarriage stories.”
We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough. . . We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. . . To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you. . . Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you. . . We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.

Teigen had not mentioned how far along she was in her pregnancy but did announce that she was expecting a baby boy last month. On Sunday, she was hospitalized due to excessive bleeding from her placenta and underwent blood transfusions.
The model also shared that although she had not named her two other children, daughter, Luna, 4, and son, Miles, 2 until she had left the hospital. With her new pregnancy, however, she had started calling her unborn son, Jack.
Two weeks ago, Teigen was placed on bed rest because of pregnancy complications. At the time, she joked that it was punishment for having said that the first two pregnancies were “easy peasy.” When they first arrived at the hospital, the couple was in good spirits, joking that they thought the room came with a minibar.
On Tuesday, though, Teigen tweeted that she was experiencing a “really scary morning.” She said she had a “huge clot, almost save-worthy. She added that “the scramble to hear the heartbeat seemed like hours. I never thought I’d relief sigh so much in my liiiiife.”
Finally, on Wednesday, Teigen reported that despite many blood transfusions, her baby had not been able to receive the fluids he needed. “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote. “On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”
Legend also wrote on Twitter, “We love you, Jack,” followed by five black hearts.
