GETTING A pricey quote for a DIY job is never a nice feeling.
Transforming your home can cost thousands, but if you haven’t got the cash in the bank to do the work, it can feel very deflating.
But one couple didn’t let themselves get bogged down when they received a quote of £1,000 to get their fitted wooden furniture sprayed.
Zoe Hitchen, 37, a hairstylist and mum of two from Clayton-le-Moors and her husband Simon Hitchen, 41, decided not to go with the expensive quote and instead managed to pull off the project for just £60 instead.
Zoe told LatestDeals.co.uk: “We lived in our previous home for twenty years and just moved into our forever home two weeks before Christmas.
"When we moved in, we originally were going to get the fitted furniture professionally sprayed but were quoted over £1,000 by two different companies.
"My husband who works in the building industry wasn’t happy with the cost so he said we would do it ourselves.
"I did some research online for some good quality furniture paint.

"I then came across Frenchic on Facebook, so I decided to find our local stockist.
"I decided on Wolf Whistle as it was the palest grey and I wanted to brighten the room up.”
Instead of splashing out £1,000 to transform their wooden cupboards, Simon was able to do it himself for just £60.
Zoe continued: "I have to give credit to my husband who spent the day prepping and painting.
"He used a roller and for the smaller parts a brush.
"He made sure all areas were cleaned with sugar soap first and gave it a gentle sand where needed.
"What made me use Frenchic was the idea of no priming and no top coat.
"I would say trust the process as the first coat can look quite scary.”
It's safe to say Zoe and Simon's cupboards look brilliant and we think Mrs Hinch would definitely approve!

She added: "I’m very pleased with the outcome and it saved us a lot of money.
“The total cost on paint was under £60, a huge difference from the £1,000 we were originally quoted!
"I love the transformation. It feels like brand new furniture, and the money saved will go towards making our new house our own!"
