Mum-of-two has a DETTOL bath once a week to keep her skin fresh – and gives her son, 8, one whenever he’s ‘filthy’ too

A MUM has revealed that she regularly bathes in Dettol to keep her skin feeling fresh, and she even gives her son a dip.

Taking to the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It Laura Nicholls made her surprising confession.

Writing on the group she said: “Does anyone else bath in dettol? Makes u feel so fresh I love it 😍 Lol.”

Laura explains that she tips two capfuls of the £3 Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant liquid into her bath once a week.

She later told the MailOnline that she also uses it on her son, 8, “if he's been out playing and gets filthy, or grazes his knees and elbows.”

Fellow mums were divided by her hack with some horrified at the idea while others admitted they already used Dettol in their bath.

“It stinks! Not a chance!” wrote one, with another adding, “Would smell like a mop tho.”

A third wrote: “Wouldn’t like to bath in Dettol who would want to smell off Dettol certainly not me I use it on my floors."

One fan said: “Love a capful in the bath. Makes the whole of upstairs smell super clean and is great for healing after a baby or operation.”

Another agreed adding: “My Mum thinks I’m weird (probably right) but I love a Dettol bath. I use Dettol soap too with exfoliating gloves!”

Several others were concerned about its safety but Dettol says that it is perfectly safe to bathe in the disinfectant as long as it is diluted.

When you shouldn’t bathe in Dettol

If you have eczema, a skin condition or are allergic to any of the ingredients.

On children under 1 year of age.

If you are pregnant or on the skin of your breast if you breastfeed unless supervised by your doctor.

Near your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or bodily orifices.

Undiluted on your skin as severe irritation may occur.

Dr Louw, pathologist at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) is quoted on the brand’s website encouraging its use when washing.

She said: “Using a Disinfectant Liquid as part of your daily hygiene routine is important.

“When skin is clean and moisturised, it improves overall hygiene”.

The brand added: “Dettol Disinfectant Liquid has added Aloe Vera, which is gentle on skin and kills 100 illness causing germs when diluted in bath water.”
