I'm a Christmas decorator for the rich & famous – four easy ways to turn you home into a winter wonderland | The Sun

THE season of cheer is finally here.

That means we're all going to be decorating our homes with Christmas trees with lovely festive colours this winter.

Some of us are very good at it, others not so much.

But are you good enough to be a professional and decorate the homes of the rich and famous every Christmas season?

Tom Harrington used to be a surveyor when his office manager asked him to decorate the office Christmas tree using corporate colours.

After doing this Tom realised Christmas decorating was something that he wanted to do for a living.

Tom and his small team take on massive jobs throughout the year transforming homes and businesses into Christmas scenes that look like they belong in a movie.

Most of Tom’s Christmas decorations jobs start at around £1,000 in costs, others go anywhere up to £20,000.

Tom and his team decorate lavish trees and beautiful garlands for mantle pieces and staircases for customers, sparing much attention to detail.

They create gorgeous wreaths for doors and gates, provide fresh seasonal floral displays and tablescapes to decorate and enhance homes or businesses for the perfect Christmas.

Tom said: “First we will visit your home or business to get to know you and your personality a little and see what decoration would best suit and compliment your decoration, style and architectural features.”

He said: “From August to October we are busy preparing in the warehouse and conducting consultations with clients so we can get to know them personally and find out what kind of styles and decorations they want to go for.”

This helps and his team plan all Christmas jobs for the season.

Tom and his team will then design, plan and install the clients desired Christmas decorations, at a time convenient to their customers.

Tom and his team get really creative with the types of decorations they do.

They don’t just decorate trees, but use giant bauble stacks, life size nutcrackers and reindeer.

This year Harrington Christmas Decorators wrapped a building with a giant red bow so it looked like a massive Christmas present, this took Tom and his team just a few hours.

From November to December Tom and his team work non-stop to decorate the homes of their clients.

He said: “From November to December we work 12 hours a day, seven days a week to make sure all our clients get their decorations up before Christmas.”

Once the festive season is over they carefully remove the decorations returning every property to its previous condition with minimum disruption to all clients.

Tom said: “In January we have to take down all the decorations for all our clients. It is about two months of work being removed in just ten days so it’s a massive logistical challenge.”

Throughout the other months of the year Tom and his team keep themselves very busy decorating homes and businesses for Autumn, Halloween and Spring.

Harrington also decorates salons, offices, boutiques, estate agents, jewellers, restaurants and cosmetic clinics.

The Harrington  team share their luxury and bespoke decorations on Instagram.

Harrington’s Christmas Decorators have decorated the homes of Manchester United and City Footballers, TV Presenters and reality stars.

To and his team have decorated the homes of equestrian star Nermina PietersMekic and real housewives Tanya Bardsley, Lauren Simon and Rachel Lugo.

But Tom and his team value all their clients and every year they put out a special message saying: “A huge thank you to all our loyal, existing clients for your continued support.”

And of course a Christmas message for all: “We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous new year Love from the Harrington's team.”

Tom has some advice if you're looking to do something special with your year.
