Coca-Cola is phasing out one of its drinks that's been around since 1998 – check to see if it's one of your favorites

COCA-Cola is phasing out one of its drinks from a brand that first launched in 1998.

The Coca-Cola Company announced this month that Honest Tea will no longer be part of its catalog by the end of the year.

In a press release, Coca-Cola announced that Gold Peak will now be the company's main "ready-to-drink" tea.

Gold Peak launched in 2006 and became a billion-dollar brand in 2015, the company said.

“We believe Gold Peak and Peace Tea are best positioned to meet consumer preferences for high-quality brewed teas with different levels of sweetness and flavor," Sabrina Tandon, group director, RTD Tea, Coca-Cola North America Operating Unit, said.

Having two teas rather than three will also free up investment resources and supply chain capacity to compensate for consumer needs.

The HONEST Kids beverages will continue to be sold, and more products will be coming out, according to the news release.

Honest Tea was founded in 1998 by Seth Goldman and Barry Nalebuff. Coca-Cola became a stakeholder in 2008 before fully acquiring the brand in 2011.

"Ongoing supply chain challenges mean we are having to prioritize production and distribution of certain product SKUs, and that we’ve been unable to meet consumer demand for Gold Peak,” Tandon added.

“This, among other factors, helped drive this very difficult decision.”

Soda fans may have noticed McDonald's soda tastes a little different from the Coke and Sprite they'd get at the store.

Former McDonald's employee Michael Ryan, who goes by @EvilGlitterQueen on the app, posted a TikTok explaining why the soda tastes so much better.

Ryan explains how the special, wider straws at the restaurant let more carbonation hit your tongue and makes the soda taste better.

Another reason your drinks taste better is due to an exclusive contract between the restaurant and Coca-Cola.

“McDonald’s actually commissions Coke for their own recipe of syrup. That’s why their Coke has a little bit more sugar and a lot more flavor.”
