Serena Williams, tennis icon and fashion obsessive, hit the red carpet at the 2019 Met Gala in her most show-stopping look to date.
As one of the hosts for tonight’s event (themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion”), Williams took to the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a highlighter-yellow Atelier Versace gown adorned with pink 3-D butterflies. It’s a bold look that few could pull off, but Williams looked perfectly at ease—especially as she revealed bright yellow Off-White x Nike sneakers under her gown.
It’s a subtle callback to Williams’s look for Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry last year. The close friend of the Duchess of Sussex attended the royal wedding reception in a Valentino gown paired with matching Valentino sneakers. She posted the look on Instagram with the caption, “Little known fact: I often wear sneakers under my evening gown.”
Williams is hosting tonight’s camp-themed affair alongside Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele. She finished off her look with de Grisogono jewels.
Naturally, Twitter had a lot of good tennis puns:
Truly, have you ever seen a more perfect video in your life?
And here’s another look at the outfit in action. Williams’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, opted for a white tux:
