Piers Morgan boasts new job will 'give Meghan Markle nightmares'

Piers Morgan clearly has no intention of putting an end to his apparent feud with Meghan Markle as he claimed his new job will be a ‘nightmare’ for the Duchess of Sussex.

Yesterday, after months of teasing, Piers finally confirmed his new gig after an explosive exit from Good Morning Britain off the back of comments made about Meghan in March.

It was later claimed the Duchess had complained to ITV boss Dame Carolyn McCall and after Piers refused to apologise for his comments, in which he said he ‘didn’t believe’ the claims made by the former Suits actress in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he walked from the broadcaster.

Now with his new gig, after the global deal was announced on Thursday in which Piers will head back to News UK and launch a new TV show with talkTV in early 2022, and present a series of True Crime documentaries, he’s got his boxing gloves back on.

Celebrating his news at his beloved Scarsdale Tavern, in Kensington, Piers told The Sun: ‘And I need to say a special thank you Meghan. As we sit drinking now, it was five years ago I met her here.

‘And I bet she was sitting there celebrating my departure from Good Morning Britain so this move will be the stuff of nightmares for her. So cheers Meghan!’

Any excuse.

Piers still has the support of his former colleagues at GMB, though, with the ITV crew congratulating him on Friday amid the news.

Charlotte Hawkins shared photos of her former co-star, saying: ‘Well done to him, he’s raising a celebratory pint there’.

Richard Arnold also gave Piers a shout-out on the show, quipping: ‘My ears, my eyes, a global deal!’

‘Just when we were going to have a whip-round to make sure he could have a bird at the table at Christmas,’ the showbiz correspondent joked, with Charlotte adding: ‘Drinks are on him!’

Returning to his former boss Rupert Murdoch, Piers revealed he’s thrilled about his next chapter, which will also see HarperCollins UK sign world rights for Piers’s new title and will publish in hardback, audio and digital formats.

The channel is a new deal between News Corp and Fox News Media, with Piers also taking on a role as a columnist for The Sun and the New York Post.

Announcing the news, Piers said in a statement: ‘I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp. which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago. Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together.

‘I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged.

‘I’m also delighted to become a columnist for The Sun and the New York Post, two brilliantly successful and popular newspaper brands.

‘I’m going home and we’re going to have some fun.’
