Neil Jones: Strictly pro ‘bullied most of his life’ as he shares heartbreaking struggles

Neil Jones enjoys ‘naked’ play in the snow with his dog

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Neil Jones, 38, has become a fan favourite after finding fame on the BBC show. However, the professional dancer recently admitted that he has faced difficulties throughout “most of his life” after being subjected to bullying over his career and looks.

The star shared that he still hasn’t gotten used to the level of attention he receives from viewers since joining Strictly due to his struggles in the past.

Neil explained he was often tormented by his peers while he was growing up, as they picked on him for his passion for dance and his red hair.

The ballroom and Latin dancer divulged: “I’m ginger and I was a dancer, so I’ve been bullied most of my life.”

Neil went on to reveal his mum helps him to stay grounded amid his newfound fame.

He said: “My mum, she grounds me every time.”

Unfortunately, Neil admitted he occasionally has to clarify things for his mum over reports she reads about him in the press.

The star continued while speaking to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on Access All Areas: “So she puts me in my place, you know, but even sometimes my mum calls me and is like, is that true?

“And I’m like, ‘mum, it’s not’.”

Neil added he has been finding the attention surrounding his love life difficult to deal with recently following his split from model Luisa Eusse.

He explained: “In the future, when I’m in a relationship, I’m keeping it quiet.

“I’m not gonna let anybody know.”

It comes after Neil shared a cryptic post telling fans he was feeling “great” after taking “toxic people” out of his life.

The dancer shared a picture of himself standing in the shower with his back to the camera, showcasing his large tattoo.

He wrote: “Taking toxic people out of my life is like having a shower after a long day.

“Feels great you should try it.”

It’s unclear who Neil was referring to specifically, however he split from dancer Luisa last month.

The pair were living separately at the time of their split as he previously admitted they had rushed into things during lockdown.

The couple previously moved in together back in the summer of last year.

A representative for Neil said earlier this month: “Neil is happy with his decision and is busy focusing on himself and some exciting work projects.

“He wishes Luisa all the best.”
