Meek Mill has shared a message about loyalty, after his name was dragged into the drama surrounding Kanye West and Kim Kardashian today.
Kanye name-dropped the rapper and claimed he’d been ‘trying to divorce Kim’ for the past year, ever since she had an alleged hotel meeting with Meek.
According to Kanye, his wife was ‘out of line’ when she met Meek to discuss prison reform.
While neither Kim nor Meek have spoken specifically about Kanye’s allegations (despite Kim earlier breaking her silence on her husband’s mental health earlier today) Meek shared an Instagram Story referencing loyalty.
He shared a quote that read: ‘Some people aren’t loyal to you, they are loyal to their need of you. Once their need changes, so does their loyalty.’
Alongside it, he wrote: ‘I had to learn this thru experience.’
This came hours after Kanye’s increasingly-erratic Twitter spree earlier on Wednesday.
Kanye, who has been open about his bipolar, tweeted in messages that have now been deleted: ‘They tried to fly in with 2 doctors to 51/50 me.
‘I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for “prison reform”.’
The father-of-four went on: ‘Meek is my man and was respectful That’s my dog Kim was out of line I’m worth 5 billion dollars and more than that through Christ But ya’ll ain’t listen to MJ and now ya’ll believe them???’
In the past Kim worked with Meek, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, after he co-founded the REFORM Alliance with activist Van Jones.
They also both spoke at the the inaugural Criminal Justice Reform Summit in Los Angeles in November 2018, which was held at the Jeremy Hotel.
Last year, Meek, 33, told Ellen DeGeneres of Kim’s activism: ‘Everybody that’s using their platform helps. Kim’s [a good friend]. I think she’s doing a lot of good work.
‘She’s doing a lot of work, more than other people who have platforms who might even [have come] from that situation. So, big ups to her and big ups to everybody that’s working for a better cause – not even just for reform.’
Kim today broke her silence following Kanye’s messages, failing to address Meek or her marriage to Kanye, asking, however, for compassion.
She wrote on her Instagram stories: ‘As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how complicated and painful it is to understand. I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.
‘Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgemental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.
‘I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressure being being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.
‘Living with bi-polar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some. That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his dreams have come true.’
Kim concluded: ‘We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole, however we should also give it to the individuals who are living with in times when they need it the most. ‘I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this. Thank you for those who have expressed concern for Kanye’s well being and for your understanding.
‘With love and gratitude, Kim Kardashian West.’
