Kerry Katona has insisted her close friend, Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton “will feel like a new person” after entering rehab.

Michelle, 41, reportedly turned to alcohol following a string of medical issues, including a hysterectomy in 2012 and a double mastectomy in 2015 to reduce her risk of cancer.

Kerry, who has previously suffered her own battles and checked herself into rehab in 2008 and 2010, told OK! Online: "She's a really good friend of mine – I love her dearly. I told her how proud I am of her and how much I love her.

“I’ve been in and out of rehab many times myself and she’s doing the right thing.”

The 40 year old former Atomic Kitten star added: “She’ll feel like a new person when she gets out and hopefully she’ll be able to tell her story and help others.”

Michelle, who is mum to daughter Faith, nine, and son AJ, seven, with Irish businessman husband Hugh Hanley, entered the rehab facility after “she’d increasingly turned to alcohol as a crutch”, according to The Sun.

A source told the newspaper: "She realised she needed to get help when she'd increasingly turned to alcohol as a crutch as she couldn't cope with the effects of her operations.

"Michelle was left feeling like she had lost so much of what made her a woman and when she went into early menopause that brought with it a whole other collection of problems.

"She was just about coping when lockdown hit last year, but the effect of being at home and being unable to distract herself, saw her hit rock bottom."

Michelle was also deeply affected by the shock death of her friend Nikki Grahame this month.

In a tribute post online to the former Big Brother star she said: "I was scared to see you…to say anything that may be a trigger to lose you…I was a coward and I'm so sorry."

“I just listened to our voices notes, our messages, and the phone calls over the last few weeks.. I think I knew, and I was too weak to know.”

A spokeswoman for Michelle said: "I can confirm that Michelle has entered a rehab facility.

"Michelle and her family kindly ask that you give her the time she needs to get better and their family the privacy at this time, particularly her young children.

“We won't be commenting on private medical information, she has the love and support of her family and friends."
