Hospitalised Tori Kelly sings ‘feeling like I could die’ in poignant lyric

American Idol winner on his finale performance

American Idol alum Tori Kelly poignantly sings about death on her new EP, which was released yesterday.

The 30-year-old double Grammy winner has a track called Alive If I Die on her latest offering.

On the soaringly beautiful song, she sings the lyrics, “I’m feeling like I could die today. I’m leaving my body, fly away, It’s alright if I die in your arms tonight.”

Although recorded months ago, the lyrics take on a special significance in light of her recent health battles.

The star was hospitalised when she suffered a medical emergency while having dinner out with her friends in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday night.

It was reported by TMZ that she passed out and that doctors were treating her for multiple blood clots around her vital organs.

She addressed the health incident yesterday, as she confirmed that the EP release would still go ahead.

In a message posted to her 4.2 million followers on Instagram, she began by saying she had been “dealing with some unexpected health challenges”.

“It’s been a scary few days but I can feel your prayers and I can’t stop thinking about you,” she said. “I’m feeling stronger and hopeful, but unfortunately there are still some things to uncover.”

The singer went on to say she was “grateful” for the amazing doctors and nurses who had been looking after her and acknowledged that her “health must come first”.

She also acknowledged that she was “heartbroken” about not being able to do things she had planned, but promised fans her new EP would still be released.

True to her word, the seven-track recording, simply entitled Tori, is currently available to stream or buy.

This comes after her husband of six years, German born baseball player Andre Murillo, 33, posted a lyric video of one of her songs to his Instagram stories for his 39.6 thousand followers.

The brief video, features the song lyrics appearing on screen against a black background underneath, in which Tori sings: “When I’m all alone and fear is all I see, sitting in the silence with these insecurities.

“It’s then you remind me, you’re holding me tight. And you love me completely, you’re always by my side.”
