Holly Willoughby’s mysterious absence from This Morning was due to her children falling ill, reports have claimed.

Holly, 39, was forced to miss two days of hosting the ITV daytime show earlier this week, as she was replaced by Alison Hammond and Davina McCall.

The TV presenter being missing from the show left some fans concerned as they speculated the circumstances around her absence.

But, it has now been reported two of Holly’s children became ill and had to get tested for coronavirus.

And, Holly was also tested despite having no symptoms.

A source told The Sun Online: “Two of the children became really poorly at the start of the week, and came down with Covid-like symptoms.

“There was no question that Holly was going to go to work – she wanted to stay at home and just be a mum, looking after her kids.

“So they've all been isolating at home, awaiting their test results. Obviously it was a worrying time but Phillip [Schofield] and everyone at ITV was incredibly supportive.”

OK! online has contacted Holly’s representatives for comment.

Fans shared their concerns over Holly’s absence from the show earlier this week on social media.

One concerned fan wrote: “I really hope holly is alright she seemed so excited about guess the gadget yesterday and now shes not on? #ThisMorning.” [sic]

Another fan speculated: "So Holly is just having a day off? Something's not right here."

A third viewer commented: "As Holly said she’d be playing guess the gadget yesterday I’m guessing it’s not a planned day off."

Alison sent Holly her well wishes as she stood in for the star and hosted This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield.

She said: “I'm standing in for Holly today as she enjoys a well-deserved day off.”

The next day, as former Big Brother host Davina McCall stood in for Holly, Phillip revealed the blonde would return on Monday.

Phillip, who scolded Davina for using a banned word on the show, explained: “Holly is having a day off, she is back on Monday. Davina is hosting with me today.”
