Death in Paradise returns with new theme song
Jason Manford, 39, has insisted that describing his experience on Death in Paradise as work “would be an insult to work”. The BBC drama is filmed on the sun-kissed French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
Reflecting on his time on set as part of season 10’s guest cast alongside Strictly Come Dancing star Kelvin Fletcher, Jason admitted he felt “embarrassed to be paid” for his role because of how positive the experience was for him.
He explained in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk: “To call it work would be an insult to work.”
In spite of Jason enjoying the beauty of the island, he also divulged that the main cast, including Ralf Little and Sara Martins, “put a shift in” due to the sweltering hot weather conditions.
He added: “But they put a shift in, as beautiful as it is, that’s quite hard conditions to be filming in, especially in a full suit.

“But as a guest act, good God, I was actually embarrassed to be paid because it was just great fun.”
Jason went on to address one downside he had to deal with while working on the island after he sustained some irritating insect bites on set.
Fortunately, the actor and comedian wasn’t too bothered by the setback.
He said: “Yeah, first world problems, what can you do?
“We were having such a great time anyway, I didn’t even notice to be honest! It was just such a laugh.
“I don’t remember any specific [insects] but I had such a great time.”
Spilling some details about his character on the series, Jason explained: “It was like a holiday.
“My character was literally on holiday with friends, so he was actually a tourist.
“He was going scuba diving and jet skiing so I was pretending to be a holidaymaker whilst also sort of being a holidaymaker!”

Jason also revealed that although he loved his time on Death in Paradise, he would have some reservations about accepting a permanent role on the show.
The dad-of-six admitted: “I think with my diary and my children it would be very hard to up sticks and say, ‘Right, I’m off to Guadeloupe!’
“But I always say never say never, you don’t know in this business what’s going to come up and I would certainly love to do a long-running drama.
“I played a detective last year in Curtains the musical and so I’d love to play a detective at some point or something against type to surprise people.”
Jason will be joined by several famous faces for the tenth anniversary of the show.
Kelvin Fletcher (Emmerdale), Gbemisola Ikumleo (Famalam), Luke Pasqualino (Our Girl) and Patrick Robinson (Casualty) will also appear as members of the BBC drama’s guest cast.
Death in Paradise Executive Producer Tim Key said: “We’re delighted to announce our amazing guest cast and particularly grateful to them all for making the journey to Guadeloupe during such a difficult year to be part of the show.
“Every episode features some amazing performances from a host of famous guests who were all a pleasure to work with and we can’t wait for our viewers to try to work out which one of them dunnit!”
