Celine Dion fans will “never let go” of their love for “Titanic” references.
“The Late Late Show” host James Corden picked up the legendary songstress for the latest installment of his Carpool Karaoke series. Together, the two belted some of Dion’s greatest hits, such as “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” “I Drove All Night” and “Because You Loved Me,” as they toured Las Vegas.
Of course any Dion retrospective would not be complete without a rendition of her 1998 power ballad “My Heart Will Go On” from the blockbuster film “Titanic.”
As the song began, Corden, 40, turned to Dion, 51, to say, “There’s something wrong with this, there’s something not quite right. It doesn’t feel big enough, you know?”
With a glimmer in her eye, the singer with a flair for drama agrees, saying: “I think I’ve got an idea — follow me.”
Next, the pair are in the iconic Fountains of Bellagio at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino — Corden embracing Dion on the bow of a small Titanic replica boat. He in a vaguely 90s era Leonardo DiCaprio-esque wig and overcoat a la “Jack,” and she in the dress coat worn by actress Kate Winslet as “Rose” in the film.
Dion also wore a faux Heart of the Ocean blue diamond necklace, just like the one featured in the classic film, which she drops it into the fountains. Crowds gathered to watch the two jokers, gesturing boldly to the music as the spectacular Bellagio fountains sprang forth in the background.
Some lucky onlookers were treated with one very special piece of Dion swag — her used shoes. Revealing the chic singer owns over 10,000 pairs of shoes, Corden insists she unload a few on the Vegas bystanders. A grieving Dion tells the late night host she “needs alcohol” as she parts with her beloved kicks.
Noting she’s always had a flair for the dramatic, Corden also challenged Dion to sing earworm kid’s song “Baby Shark.” Corden had to admit she delivered.
“That is an incredible version of ‘Baby Shark’ that I don’t think anyone will ever forget,” he says.
Since March 2011, Celine Dion has regularly performed her retrospective show “Celine” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. It’s her second Vegas residency since “A New Day …,” which ran from March 2003 through December 2007. Once her Colosseum show ends June 8, Dion will embark on the 50-city world tour “Courage,” beginning in her hometown of Quebec City on September 18.
