‘I was scared of Eminem my whole life. Terrified That dude freaked the f*** out of me. Oh my god.
‘But you know, Childish Gambino created me dude. I don’t even know, that’s crazy, that’s a god you can’t even put him in a list of other people.’
Eminem’s breakthrough album The Slim Shady LP, featuring My Name Is, was released in 1999, and the number one album The Marshall Mathers LP featuring The Way I Am, The Real Slim Shady and Stan, was released the year later…
… both before Billie was even born in December 2001.
The When The Party’s Over singer may have been scared of Eminem, but that’s better than her reaction to the Spice Girls, as Billie didn’t think they were a real band.
Billie admitted that she thought that Posh, Baby, Scary, Ginger and Sporty were actually characters written for the movie Spice World, and didn’t realise they were legit one of the bigges girl groups ever.
Speaking on Capital’s Breakfast Show, she said: ‘I thought all the music was written for the movie. I thought all the characters were cast for those characters.
‘I didn’t figure it out until two years ago. I watched that movie like 40 times. I remember seeing Spice Girls and thinking, oh my god they’re re-enacting the movie.’
In fairness to Billie, she wasn’t even alive when Spice World came out, and the Spice Girls had been split up for a year when she was born.
Yep, we’re ancient.
